My Founder Story: Building SELMOND’s Varsity Legacy Since 1998

From the Factory Floor to a Global Varsity Partner

I was born in Dongguan, surrounded by one of China’s most famous garment and decoration production centers. My father worked as a pattern and tailoring master, and he taught me precision, quality, responsibility and professionalism from an early age. At 16 I entered the clothing industry and learned every stage of apparel manufacturing — pattern making and cutting, sewing lines, embroidery and chenille rooms, tackle-twill and sublimation stations, and quality control. I built a deep understanding of fabric behavior, construction, decoration and production management by working on the floor.

Working with buyers, I kept meeting the same frustration: too many factories rushed the decoration, so chenille letters peeled, twill numbers frayed and jacket sleeves cracked after a season. In 1998 my family and I established a small cut-and-sew and decoration workshop serving local apparel factories and teams. I invested in embroidery, chenille and sublimation equipment, trained an artwork and sampling team, and rebuilt the workshop into a complete OEM and ODM varsity and team apparel manufacturer focused on craftsmanship first.

My operating philosophy is simple: the decoration craftsmanship is what makes a varsity jacket or jersey look authentic and hold up. Most factories treat it as an afterthought. I insist that every chenille letter sits flat and clean, every tackle-twill number is stitched with tight satin edges, and every garment holds its shape, color and lettering wear after wear. I want our clients — brands, teams, decorators and designers — to feel confident that their apparel will survive real wear and washing, and that they have a true manufacturing partner behind them.

Today we serve over 2,000 brands and teams worldwide, but I am still building toward the same goal: to become the strongest varsity jacket and team apparel manufacturing partner behind global brands and teams. We continuously invest in decoration technology, product development, fabric and trend research, supply-chain management, sustainable production and professional communication. My principle — craftsmanship first, brand partnership always — still guides SELMOND every day.
